“Coach Roger” has been coaching soccer for 20 years and is starting his 3rd season with PFC! He brings to us a diverse coaching expertise spanning youth, college, and professional levels. He has served pivotal roles such as Director of Coaching & Methodology at Sporting Kansas City; and Director of Coaching Education at RISE Soccer Club in Houston, where he designed curricula, mentored coaches, and implemented club-wide playing philosophies. Most recently, he was appointed Director of Coaching at Pflugerville FC, where he continues to lead coaching education and advance player development. In 2024, he was named head coach of the women’s semi-pro team Austin Rise FC, where he continues to guide them with a strong tactical approach and fosters team success.
His favorite part of coaching is seeing players grow in confidence and watching their hard work pay off, both on and off the field. He loves being part of their journey, helping them to overcome challenges, and seeing them build friendships through the game. It’s rewarding to watch a player’s face light up when they master a new skill or realize how much they’ve improved. For him, coaching is not just about teaching soccer—it’s about building character, creating a positive environment, and helping players believe in themselves.
During his playing career, Coach Roger had the opportunity to compete internationally as a goalkeeper, representing Paraná Clube in Brazil, and Club Atlas in Guadalajara! Then, in 2007 he made it to Major League Soccer with the Colorado Rapids.
Coach Roger was born in Mexico and grew up in the United States, which has given him a deep appreciation for both cultures and the value of community. He comes from a large, close-knit family; and spending time with them is something he truly enjoys outside of soccer. He loves traveling and exploring new places with friends and family whenever he gets the chance..
A fun fact about me: I love visiting new coffee shops wherever I travel and am always on the hunt for the best café de olla or local espresso to start my day. Another fun fact—despite spending so much time around sports, I actually don’t know how to swim!
